Adobe Photoshop celebrated it’s 25th Birthday last week, and continues to call the shots after 25 years.

Adobe have managed to build their brand to combat all rivals over the years, and is now so ubiquitous that it has become a verb. In the same way that when you search for something you “Google it,” when you alter an image, you “Photoshop it,” even if you don’t own the software.

We may think of Photoshop as tweaking a selfie or as magazines airbrushing celebrities, but the image-editing software, first released in 1990, is so much more than that. It’s used in almost every design process we see today, from billboards, logos, T-Shirts, to industrial design….and we love it!

In fact the creator of Photoshop, Thomas Knoll, and his brother John Knoll, were first inspired in the 1980s to create Photoshop purely for special effects in film… John was working for George Lucas’ visual effects company, Industrial Light and Magic at the time.

And here’s a few of Arch Creative’s recent film poster designs, where a few of our Photoshop skills have been used. Here’s to the next 25 years…
